Jacky Ickx and the breakdown

A frantic battle between Hans Herrmann's Porsche and Jacky Ickx's Ford. On the last lap, the Belgian driver was in the lead by a few seconds. However, the German's Porsche was more efficient in the corners than the Ford GT40, which was faster in a straight line. Jacky Ickx decided to slow down as he feared being overtaken in the circuit's final curves. Hans Herrmann went back to the front, even thinking that his opponent had a technical problem. Victory was in his grasp, but the Ford driver accelerated again, using his rival's slipstream to overtake him on the final straight.
