The Pikes Peak anecdote

In 1988, Ari Vatanen took part in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in a specially prepared Peugeot 405 T16. The race, which takes place in Colorado, is one of the most dangerous in the world, with a vertiginous 20-kilometer climb and numerous tight bends with no safety barriers.

During his climb, Vatanen was filmed for a short film entitled "Climb Dance", which has since become legendary. In this video, Vatanen can be seen fighting the blinding sunlight by holding his steering wheel in one hand and using the other to protect his eyes, while continuing to drive at incredible speeds.

His impressive control of the vehicle on extremely dangerous gravel roads, combined with spectacular shots, helped to immortalize the moment. Vatanen won the race that year, setting a new record, and "Climb Dance" remains one of the most iconic films in motorsport history.
